Terms of Service

Last updated: August 4, 2026

Short version: this is a travel blog written from personal experience. Read it, use what helps, verify anything that matters before you book it, and do not sue me if a visa rule changed after I published. The long version follows.

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of grumpydadtraveltales.com and everything published on it (the “Site”). The Site is operated by the author of Grumpy Dad Travel Tales (“I”, “me”, “we”). By visiting the Site, reading an article, subscribing to the newsletter or sending a message, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the Site.

2. Who may use the Site

The Site is intended for adults. You may use it only if you are at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and only for lawful purposes. Nothing here is directed at children.

3. What this Site is — and what it is not

Grumpy Dad Travel Tales publishes first-person stories, opinions, checklists and practical notes about business travel: airports, hotels, packing, jet lag, client dinners, cultural etiquette and the small logistics mistakes that cost real money. It is editorial content based on personal experience.

It is not professional advice. Nothing on this Site is legal, immigration, visa, medical, health, tax, financial, insurance or investment advice, and no article creates a professional relationship of any kind between you and me. Entry requirements, visa rules, vaccination requirements, airline policies, security rules, opening hours, prices and safety conditions change constantly and vary by nationality and circumstance. Always confirm anything consequential with the airline, the hotel, your employer, your doctor, your insurer, or the official government source for your destination before you rely on it.

4. Accuracy and availability

I write carefully and correct mistakes when they are pointed out, but I cannot guarantee that everything on the Site is accurate, complete or current. Articles reflect conditions at the time of writing. I may change, update, move or delete any content at any time without notice, and I may suspend or discontinue any part of the Site.

5. Affiliate links and commercial relationships

The Site participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. Some links are affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you buy something after clicking one, at no additional cost to you. This never changes what I recommend or what I write about a product. Full details are on the Affiliate Disclosure page, which forms part of these Terms.

6. Third-party sites, sellers and services

The Site links to retailers, airlines, hotels, booking platforms, publishers and other third parties. Those businesses are independent of me. Any purchase, booking or account you make with them is a contract between you and them, governed by their terms, their prices, their shipping and their refund policies. I am not a party to that transaction and I am not responsible for their products, their service, their pricing, their availability or their handling of your data. If a product bought through a link here disappoints you, your remedy is with the seller.

7. Books and other materials

Books and downloadable materials by Grumpy Dad Travel Tales are distributed through third-party platforms such as Amazon. Purchases, delivery, refunds and customer support for those items are handled by the platform you bought them from, under that platform’s terms. Free downloads and printouts offered on the Site are provided for your own personal use, as-is, with no warranty and no support commitment.

8. Newsletter

Subscribing to the newsletter means you consent to receive emails from the Site, which may include new articles, travel tips and occasional recommendations that contain affiliate links. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. Handling of your email address is described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Intellectual property

All content on the Site — articles, photographs, illustrations, checklists, guides, the Grumpy Dad Travel Tales name and logo — is owned by me or used with permission, and is protected by copyright and trademark law.

You may read the Site, print pages for your own personal use, and quote a reasonable, attributed excerpt with a link back to the original article. Search engines, AI assistants and other automated systems may index and cite the Site, provided they attribute it and link to the source.

You may not republish articles in whole or in substantial part, sell or license the content, scrape the Site at a volume that burdens the server, remove attribution or copyright notices, or present the content as your own. Requests for anything beyond the personal use described above go through the contact page.

10. Your submissions

If you submit a comment, a message, a photograph or any other material, you confirm that it is yours to submit and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights. You keep ownership of what you submit, and you grant me a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, reproduce and edit it in connection with the Site — for example to publish your comment, or to quote your question in an article. I may edit, refuse or remove any submission for any reason, including spam, abuse or self-promotion.

11. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site to break the law, harass or defame anyone, post spam or malware, attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site or its server, interfere with its normal operation, or systematically harvest data from it by automated means beyond ordinary search-engine indexing.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site and all of its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. I do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that any advice, tip or recommendation on it will produce a particular result for you. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, bookings, travel arrangements or business opportunities, arising out of or connected with your use of the Site or your reliance on anything published on it — including missed flights, refused boarding, denied entry, cancelled bookings or costs incurred in reliance on information that turned out to be out of date. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, my total liability to you for any claim relating to the Site is limited to one hundred US dollars (US$100).

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Site, its owner and its contributors from any claim, demand, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Site, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or of anyone else’s rights.

15. Privacy

Your use of the Site is also governed by the Privacy Policy, which explains what data is collected and how it is handled. It forms part of these Terms.

16. Termination

I may block access to the Site, remove content or refuse service to anyone who breaches these Terms, at my discretion and without notice. The sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnification survive any termination.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the Site owner resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any formal proceeding, you agree to contact me first through the contact page and give me thirty days to resolve the issue informally — most complaints are settled faster by a short email than by anything involving lawyers. If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.

18. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. The current version always lives on this page with its “last updated” date, and continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the revised Terms.

19. General

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. My failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Affiliate Disclosure, are the entire agreement between you and me regarding the Site.

20. Contact

Questions about these Terms, permission requests or complaints: use the contact page.
